And so, onto the second of our daily thoughts during this coronavirus outbreak.
Having listened to today’s briefing from the UK government, the official advice regarding mass gatherings (and weddings haven’t been mentioned again) doesn’t seem to have changed and an awful lot at the moment appears to be about us all doing the right and sensible thing to protect everyone.
We have heard today that the Church of Wales has stopped all marriage Ceremonies and the Church of England is limiting numbers to five (the couple, witnesses and vicar).
This isn’t where we are at this moment in time, whether that time will come, we will all have to wait and see. This is all moving so very, very quickly as we know you will also be aware. We will all need to keep monitoring the advice given by the UK government, take that advice and all adapt our lives to ensure this illness is sent packing as soon as possible.
If your ceremony is booked at one of our lovely venues make sure you speak with them about how you can incorporate reduced social contact and social distancing into your celebrations. If you’ve booked a statutory ceremony at either the register office or the Macclesfield room where numbers are usually 12 including the couple, think about how you can include social distancing – will your numbers still be 12? The same for your Mayor’s Reception Room or Silk Room. These rooms usually hold up to 50 including, the couple. As more people self isolate late and start moving around less, is there the opportunity for your party to reduce social contact? Until we are told there is no other option; we have no intention of saying no to you and your ceremony.
We have spoken with couples in the last few days who have been taking charge of their Big Day and making decisions before decisions are made for them. A number have been moving their date from March, April or May to much later in the year. If this is something you are considering and have already spoken with your venue to check other dates, please contact us to so that we can check our diaries as well. Our phone lines are really very busy at the current time; we’ve also changed our opening times to 9am – 4.30pm Monday to Friday, and of course we are still here on a Saturday morning too.
It may be easier to contact the team on firstname.lastname@example.org.
Your ceremony is as important and special to us as it is to you and we will do everything we can to make sure it stays that way.
Stay safe and remember when you booked your registrar you booked the entire team, so if you have any queries please do contact us, we are busy, but we promise to respond as quickly as we can.
Take care and we’ll be in touch tomorrow x
